Welcome! You have heard or seen the stories: parents working two jobs just to make ends meet; the number of single parents skyrocketing, children  having children, drugs, guns, a mother killing her own children. We have seen a six year old shooting another six year old, and a middle school child hanging himself in a school bathroom, and so on. Some parents are concentrating on getting richer and thereby providing little or no real parenting. Adult illiteracy is at its highest among all races; it is a national epidemic that requires everyone's involvement.

Students graduating from school without being able to read and of course, the reciprocal, students being held back several times and finally dropping out before finishing high school. So what is the REAL ANSWER you may wonder. Neither the school systems nor government alone can provide real and permanent solutions to this national problem.

I decided long ago to make a difference and do something about it. In 1992 I created the "Saturday Scholars
TM Program" (SSP), a non-traditional, motivational, nurturing, mentoring and tutoring program at Sam Houston Middle School in Irving, Texas. Since then, SSP has expanded into numerous schools within several school districts with no end in sight. Now in its 11th year, SSP has impacted over 22,000 students over the past 11 years. The mission of the Saturday Scholars program is to provide a holistic approach to a child's learning experience; by promoting better education and by providing positive role models for all students in a non-traditional and creative setting on weekends. The Saturday ScholarsTM Program (SSP) holds two-hour free tutoring sessions every Saturday during the school year that give students the additional help and encouragement they need to keep up with their homework assignments and improve their grades. The program is staffed by Volunteers who work with students, teachers and school administrators to ensure that all students have the best chance to achieve high standards of learning. This is accomplished by tutoring, mentoring, motivating, and nurturing the students as well as serving as role models in a non-traditional, safe and drug-free setting. I strongly believe that providing students with a pleasant learning environment and fun educational activities can make a remarkable difference in the their enthusiasm for learning.

In 2001, I realized that ongoing contributions, in-kind donations, title and Corporate sponsorship will be required to maintain and expand the Program in Texas and nationally throughout the United States of America; to involve more volunteer tutors and a paid-staff and of course, the bottom-line . . . TO REACH MORE CHILDREN; so that, "No child is left behind."

Hence I created the Saturday Scholars Program Foundation, Inc., a  501©3 Publicly Funded Organization, to enable us to raise the required  funding levels necessary to accomplish our goals.
